Saint Martin de Porres, is the patron saint of barbers, innkeepers, and public health workers. St Martin was raised by his mixed race family in Lima, his mother a slave of Panama. When he was twelve years old he served as an apprentice to a barber/surgeon, there he learnt to cut hair but also draw blood.
